Birth: 1894 Bringelly, NSW, AustraliaDeath: 30 Sep 1917 (age 23) Ypres, Belgium, Died of Wounds Cemetery or Memorial: The Huts Cemetery, Dickebusch, Belgium Father: Richard MCKNIGHT ( - 1926) Mother: Christina (1859 - 1929) Richard gave his occupation as Farmer when he enlisted 3 October 1915 at Liverpool, and his next of kin was his his father Richard McKnight of Wang Wauk near Nabiac. He served in the 13th Field Artillery Brigade, 51st Battery A.I.F. He departed Sydney on the 'Euripides' 2 November 1915 and arrived in France via Egypt June 1916. Richard's brother (Private 3340) Charles McKnight, born in 1886 at Burwood was also a farmer when he enlisted 8 November 1915 at Holsworthy and served with the 3rd Battalion A.I.F. Charles departed Sydney on the 'Suevic' 20 December 1915 and arrived France February 1916. Private Charles McKnight was killed in action 22 July at Pozieres France age 30. Driver Richard MCKNIGHT was wounded in action (shrapnel wounds right leg and left arm) at Ypres, Belgium and died from his wounds at the 3rd Australian Field Ambulance, Belgium on 30 September 1917 age 23. |
